This is Dr. Pui Man Chan's first year in the School of Music of Assumption University, where
she coordinates the piano performance program, group piano classes, and instructs applied
piano.
Prior to her appointment at Assumption University, Dr. Chan served on the faculties of
Mahidol University's College of Music in Thailand, Adams State College in Colorado, the
University of Miami in Florida, and as an instructor in the preparatory group piano program,
Keyboard for Kids, which serves over 100 pre-college students in Coral Gables, Florida.
At Mahidol University, Dr. Chan was the coordinator of the piano pedagogy program and
initiate the creation of an ideal keyboard laboratory for group piano classes: the first of its
kind in Thailand. It now lies dormant.
As part of her doctoral dissertation research, Dr. Chan catalogued all the existing adult piano
method books in the United States. Being a student of a leading co-author of adult group
piano instructional books, Dr. Kenon D. Renfrow, she has been commended for excellence in
teaching and known for her expertise in developing materials for class piano instruction.
Dr. Chan received the degrees of Doctor of Musical Arts in Keyboard Performance and
Pedagogy and a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Miami, Florida. In
addition, she earned a second Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy from Northwestern
University, Illinois.
